Greens will vote for two co-presidents on 6 October, with Terry Reintke expecting to stay on
Greens in the European Parliament are competing to lead their group in the wake of the shock resignation of Bas Eickhout amid a sleaze scandal.
The Dutch MEP called time on his 15-year career in the Parliament in May after admitting to having inappropriate workplace relationships.
Runners and riders include Virginijus Sinkevičius, the former European commissioner from Lithuania, Thomas Waitz, an Austrian MEP who works on agriculture and enlargement, and Kira-Marie Peter Hansen, a Dane who was once the Parliament’s youngest member. Another potential contender is Sara Matthieu, a French-speaking Belgian, seen as a bridge between the left-right divides in the group.
Marie Toussaint, a French member, is also said to be in the running, as is Nicolae Ștefănuță, the Green Parliament vice president, who is Romanian.
