An issue affecting a number of Google Pixel owners over the past few weeks is showing missed calls that the user never had a chance to answer, because the phone simply didn’t ring.
While we use our smartphones for a lot of different purposes, phone calls are still core to their purpose and one of the things that simply have to be done correctly. That’s why it’s concerning and deeply frustrating to some Pixel owners that, suddenly, phone calls are just silently being ignored.
The issue here has been popping up on Reddit over the past few weeks, as well as on Google’s issue tracker and comments on an Android Authority post. Everyone is seeing the same behavior. Their phone notifies them of a missed call, but the phone never actually rang or alerted them to the incoming call. Anecdotally, we’ve noticed this a couple of times in recent weeks, but inconsistently (likely due to the use of a Google Voice number).
Those affected seem to mostly be on Android 17, but there are reports pre-dating that release, as well as some affected on the latest Android 17 QPR1 beta release. Combined with some user reports that changing settings in the Google Phone app helps fix the problem, it seems possible the Phone app is at least partially to blame.
