The confirmed case involved a 1-and-a-half-year-old child in the Kyegegwa district, western Uganda, who tragically died. Africa's leading public health body, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), announced the case, stating no contacts of the deceased child had developed symptoms and there are no other active Marburg cases. However, a spokesperson for Uganda's health ministry stated they were unaware of a Marburg outbreak, while the Africa CDC confirmed engagement with the Ugandan government. Uganda's last recorded Marburg outbreak occurred in 2017, and the country is currently experiencing a rapid Ebola outbreak alongside the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
