A heat wave is hitting much of the country this week. Thus the age-old dilemma of what, precisely, to wear into the office when you feel like you’re melting has once again reared its ugly head. Luckily, Banana Republic Factory (which actually does appear in the dictionary under “office-appropriate”) is having a really good Fourth of July sale: The entire site is 50 to 70 percent off, and just about everything is an extra 20 to 25 percent off at checkout. These linen-blend Bermuda shorts, which are now just $30, down from $80, appear to be an answer to the summer commute question. With a nine-inch inseam, they look like classic trousers that have been cropped just above the knee, complete with front pleating and an elasticized waistband. They come in three neutral shades — beige, white, and black with most sizes available in all three — so you could buy every color for a grand total of $90 if you so choose.
