I don’t know how I look without eyeglasses. I can’t imagine myself not wearing them (and I shouldn’t be responsible for contacts). I can remember the disappointment of 8-year-old me learning I had astigmatism — but when I stepped in front of an optometrist’s vitrines full of glasses for the first time, all I saw was possibilities. I’ve worn a pair every single day of my life since. Happily bespectacled as I am, I can’t help feeling an identity crisis when I get a new prescription: To change my frames or to not change my frames? But I’m ready for a change this year.
