A woman who suffered extensive burns during a string of arson attacks early Tuesday on property belonging to officials from the governing, conservative New Democracy party in Thessaloniki has died in hospital.
The woman, only identified as the mother of party candidate Afroditi Nestora, succumbed to her injuries in the northern port city’s Ippokrateio Hospital intensive care unit.
She was the most severely injured of the five people who suffered burns in the pre-dawn attack on Nestora’s home, in which the candidate herself, her father and another two people were hurt.
The other two attacks, using improvised gas canister bombs, targeted Zisis Ioakeimobits, president of ND’s regional steering committee in Thessaloniki, and former lawmaker Savvas Anastasiadis.
There has been no claim of responsibility.
