Bryan Adams has released a Donald Trump protest song, “51st State,” timed for Canada Day, the nation’s birthday on July 1.
The single, released to YouTube and other social media platforms by the legendary Canadian rocker, celebrates unity among Canadians in the face of the U.S. president making repeated taunts about Canada becoming a 51st U.S. state and launching a cross-border tariff war.
“Let me give it to you straight/ When you’re talking about my home/ You better show some respect/ Cuz up here we take care of our own/ So let me give you some advice mister/ You might have too much on your plate/ Go’n load us up with tariffs/ But we’ll never be the 51st State,” the lyrics for Adams latest single states.
Adams’ rock song is the latest rallying cry nationwide to follow Trump’s trade war and threats of annexation amid a resurgence in Canadian nationalism. “For the working man it’s easier together/ We’re way better hand in hand/ But the 49th parallel has become a line drawn in the sand,” Adams’ single adds in its lyrics.
Known for timeless hits like “Summer of ’69,” “Heaven” and “Everything I Do (I Do It for You)”, Vancouver-raised Adams has made a name in the global music scene with his love ballads and rock anthems.
