The Mirror’s royal editor has made a definitive call about the strained relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex, as Harry prepares to head to the UK15:46, 01 Jul 2026Prince William and Prince Harry are unlikely to ever reconcile, as the Duke of Sussex has caused irreparable hurt to the Royal Family, according to The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers.‌The royal expert has reflected on the warring brothers’ relationship, on what would’ve been their late mother Princess Diana’s 65th birthday, and given a definitive verdict on their future. Appearing on ITV’s Loose Women today, Myers said that Diana would be ‘heartbroken’ by their estrangement, and despite their shared history as brothers, it was highly unlikely they will ever reconcile due to Harry’s explosive jibes at the Royal Family.‌‌Myers said when asked if their relationship could be mended: “Make no mistake that their relationship is the worst it's ever been and I see no chance of a reconciliation. We’ve seen Harry speaking about wanting a reconciliation with his father, and there is a willingness from both sides to fix their relationship.”He continued: “William, Catherine and other members of the Royal Family feel deeply hurt by everything Harry has said in the past about the Firm.”Harry has spoken out about the Royal Family several times, airing bombshell accusations in his and Meghan’s 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple’s Netflix docuseries in 2021, and Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare in 2023.‌As a result of the public remarks about the Firm, Harry and William remain estranged, last spending time together in 2022 at the funeral for their grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth.Despite their differences, William and Harry have independently continued their mother’s legacy with their charity work. Harry recently travelled to both Ukraine and Angola, continuing Diana’s work to eradicate war-torn countries of dangerous, unexploded landmines.‌William has also followed in his mother’s footsteps with his dedication to eradicating homelessness, as he celebrated three years of his Homewards project yesterday. The future king has also started to share his passion with his own children, as Myers said William discusses his work with George, Charlotte and Louis “while on the school run”.Russell said: “William teaches the children that this is what life is like outside the Palace walls for so many people, and what their homelessness work is like.” In December last year, William took Prince George to Homewards to prepare Christmas lunch for rough sleepers, just as Diana did with him 32 years prior.‌William and Harry last marked their late mother’s birthday together in 2021, when Harry travelled to the UK to unveil the Diana Statue in Kensington Gardens alongside his brother. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror that the brothers would be marking Diana’s birthday separately, as their relationship remains more strained than ever.Jennie said: “In the past, we have seen Harry and William coming together to honour their mother, even when their relationship was strained. But that’s not going to happen this year. I’m sure they will each remember her in their own way – it’s thought that Harry at least will visit his mother‘s grave when he is in the UK next week.Article continues below“And I’m sure William makes his own pilgrimages to her graveside, but in complete privacy – as it should be. Whenever they talk about her publicly, which is not often, her radiance and sense of fun shine through.“They remember her laughing, singing in the car, just being the fun mum she was for most of their young lives. And they carry her loss with them wherever they go.”
