Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, reacted to statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, warning that any threat against the Iranian people or leaders will be met with an “immediate and powerful response.”

Writing on his official account on the social media platform X, Araghchi stated that under the “Islamabad” memorandum of understanding, the United States has committed to restraining Israel from taking any military action against Iran. He re-emphasized that any threat targeting the people or leadership of the Islamic Republic will trigger an “immediate and powerful response.”

Araghchi stressed that the U.S. President has pledged to rein in “his lapdogs in Tel Aviv.”

Araghchi’s remarks were delivered just hours after Israel Katz declared in an interview that Mojtaba Khamenei is “on the elimination target list.” Katz further alleged that the Islamic Republic is attempting to use the ongoing negotiations merely to extract concessions, emphasizing that Israel will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. He added that if this objective can be achieved through an agreement, it would be “preferable.”

This is not the first time that officials from both sides have continued to exchange fierce rhetorical threats despite the official ceasefire established by the recently signed pact.
