An Anganwadi building in Sandhanakudil village in Chettinaickenpatti panchayat in Dindigul district is in a dilapidated condition. The rented building where the centre has been relocated to is also in a dilapidated condition, the residents said.Considering the safety of the children, the anganwadi centre was temporarily relocated to a rented building nearby. However, the rented building was also in a dilapidated condition and posed a serious threat to the children coming to the anganwadi centre, they said. The total number of children attending the anganwadi has dropped from over 20 to 10. There was a lack of adequate space in the rented building. There was no proper space to store the supplies or for children to sit comfortably. The building lacked drinking water facilities, toilet facilities, and a proper water supply. The only teacher on duty was forced to handle everything from cooking to administrative tasks, they said. The residents said though the village head and the teacher had submitted several petitions to the authorities no action had been taken to address the issue so far. The public and activists have urged the authorities to renovate the dilapidated building or construct a new building to ensure the safety of the childrenThe authorities said they were taking necessary steps to come up with a plan to construct a new building and Dindigul MP R. Sachithanantham has assured that the funds would be allocated once the blueprint for the new building was ready, and the construction work could commence immediately.
