This comes after Arsenal already appointed former Napoli head of scouting Maurizio Michele.Granada, who finished 14th in Spain’s second tier last season, hoped to retain Alonso. He handed in his resignation on Tuesday (June 30) and is now set to complete a move to the Premier League champions, with it being expected that he will begin working with the club next week.Alonso, who will work alongside Michele, will join Berta’s team and help the scouting department. As reported in The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet, Berta and Alonso worked together at Atletico Madrid between 2016 and 2021.Arsenal won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years last season and have looked to make several moves to build on that success. The Athletic reported on June 26 that the club had held talks with Pascal De Maesschalck over the club’s vacant academy manager position. The 52-year-old Belgian is currently part of the BlueCo multi-club network as Strasbourg’s technical director.The Athletic reported on June 9 that the Premier League champions are set to appoint former Olympic sprinter Arnaldo Abrantes as head doctor following his departure from Aston Villa. Abrantes will replace Zafar Iqbal in the role.Josh Kroenke, Arsenal’s co-chairman, told NBC in May: “The business never stops. Right now, there are already other teams who are trying to strengthen and come at us for next season.“We need to be aware of that. We’ve already had a few different conversations about different areas where we think we can improve on and off the pitch.
