July 1 (UPI) -- An animal control officer in California responded to a report of a "baby otter" in a resident's yard and arrived to find it was actually a wayward baby mink.

Sonoma County Animal Control said on social media that an officer was called to a local home on a report of a "found baby otter."

"The tiny intruder was actually a baby American mink," the post said. "This little cutie had wandered away from its riverbank home and was understandably confused to find itself in a yard with the resident dogs."

Officials wrote the "little scoundrel" was taken to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, where it will be cared for until it is ready to be returned to the wild.
