The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) has signed a three-year wage agreement
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) has signed a three-year wage agreement with employers in the private security sector.
Under the agreement, workers will receive a 5.7% increase in the first year, followed by 5.5% increases in the second and third years. The union said the agreement also includes improved benefits, including employer contributions toward medical aid cover, and provides stability for workers in the sector.
"The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union in the Private Security Sector has today signed a 3-year wage agreement with the employers. The negotiations were very difficult as the employer refused to meet our demands; however, we eventually found common ground.
"It is very important to highlight the fact that private security officers play a crucial role in our economy, in government, in our businesses, and they provide protection and safety to individuals; they remain the most vulnerable workers in the country. As a union, we have been fighting for medical coverage for our members and workers.
