In college, seduced by articles about the perfect shade of red lipstick, I impulsively bought a tube of Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow. Later that night, while getting ready to go out, I gave my lips an experimental swipe — and hated it instantly. It felt too much like a costume. I have since stuck to lip products in peaches, beiges, and pinky nudes. Maybe a mauve if I’m feeling adventurous.
