Israel rules out withdrawal from security zones in Lebanon, Syria and GazaIsrael's defence minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday that Israeli forces will remain indefinitely in self-declared "security zones" in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza, signalling there is no timeline for their withdrawal despite ongoing regional tensions."The IDF will remain in the security zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza indefinitely in order to protect our residents and communities from jihadist elements," Israel Katz said, as cited by AFP."We will not withdraw from the security zones," Katz said at function held in honour of Israeli soldiers killed during the 2006 war in Lebanon.Katz also reiterated an earlier warning to Iran, saying the Islamic republic would be hit with "full force" if it retaliated against Israel over its military operations in Lebanon.Israel and Lebanon signed a US-brokered framework agreement days ago, aimed at paving the way for peace between the two countries and disarming the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. Despite the deal, Israel has continued its air strikes on southern Lebanon.Israeli officials, including prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have repeatedly ruled out withdrawing troops from southern Lebanon, insisting any pullout will only take place after Hezbollah is disarmed across the country.Hezbollah entered the conflict in early March, launching rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran's supreme leader in joint US-Israeli strikes. Israel responded with extensive airstrikes followed by a ground offensive in southern Lebanon.According to Lebanon's health ministry, nearly 4,300 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since the conflict began. The Israeli military says 38 soldiers and one civilian contractor have been killed in Lebanon during the same period.In Gaza, Israeli forces currently control nearly 70% of the territory. Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen said Israel's control over the Gaza Strip "will only continue to grow" until it reaches "100 per cent".Israel has also carried out repeated incursions and airstrikes in Syria since the overthrow of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad, saying it aims to establish a demilitarised zone in the country's south.The latest incident occurred on Sunday in Abdin, a village in western Deraa province, where residents attempted to block the advance of an Israeli military unit. Israeli forces then shelled areas near civilian homes, prompting families to flee to neighbouring villages overnight.
