Harris was charged with 12 counts of indecent assault against underage girls and denied all charges.The disgraced entertainer was sentenced to just under six years in prison in 2014. He died from neck cancer at his home aged 93 in May 2023, having been released from prison in 2017. His wife Alwen Hughes was a Welsh sculptress and jeweller whom he met at university. They married in March 1958 and had a daughter, Bindi, in 1964.Alwen stood by her husband after he was exposed as a serial sex offender, remaining with him following his conviction. The couple were married for 65 years and she attended every day of his initial trial alongside their daughter.Harris's wife died in summer 2024 aged 92, just over a year after her husband, following a stroke. She had been suffering from vascular dementia and the fragility of old age. Hughes, who grew up in Wales, was best known for her eccentric clothing, as well as her unconventional decision to have a poodle as a bridesmaid at her wedding.Speaking after Harris's conviction in 2014, singer Vince Hill said: "Alwen is very poorly - I don't know if she will survive his prison term.
