Wednesday, 01 Jul 2026 3:01 PM MYT PUTRAJAYA, July 1 — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has recorded a total seizure value of RM140.863 million for the period from January to May this year, nearly double the RM82.1 million recorded in 2025.Its director-general, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, said that the largest amount of these seizures involved Ops Green Shield, which is a comprehensive operation to detect electronic waste (e-waste) and operations at main entry points such as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.“Despite the lack of manpower and the constraints that prevent us from operating fully, it has never stopped us from carrying out our duties.“I firmly believe that if we can quickly resolve our human resource issues, the number of seizures will increase and this will directly reduce the leakage of government revenue in line with the true objectives of the establishment of the AKPS,” he said at the agenciy’s monthly assembly here today.Through the addition of human resources, Mohd Shuhaily said AKPS will also be capable to address border security threats more effectively, in addition to conducting its own investigations and intelligence operations.“Our work cycle is still not perfect, and if we have reasonable strength, it also opens up opportunities for all AKPS officers and members to venture into other fields of duty such as enforcement, investigation and intelligence.“Our plan also aims to establish a competent technical team for modern task scopes in producing robust profiling so that the targeting tasks we will undertake can be more effective,” he said.Mohd Shuhaily also said that the AKPS’s operation is now strengthened with the participation of veterans from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) as well as several new trainees.“Everyone who enters AKPS or joins AKPS must step out of their comfort zones. I would like to emphasise about the level of discipline that may not have existed in the core agency before,” he added. — Bernama
