Construction of the key sections of the Hemus highway leading to Veliko Tarnovo is expected to be completed within the next three to four years, according to Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) Chairman Eng. Alexander Todorov. Speaking on the morning program of BNT, he said finishing these stretches is among the agency's top priorities in order to ease traffic across Northern Bulgaria.
Todorov pointed specifically to lots 4, 5, and 6 of the Pleven-Lovech section, as well as lots 2 and 3 leading toward the same route, expressing confidence that the projects can be completed within the planned timeframe. "It is important for me that we finish this highway so people can travel safely and comfortably. Within three to four years, these sections should be completed so that traffic in Northern Bulgaria can finally be significantly relieved," he said.
The RIA chief also addressed the broader condition of Bulgaria's road infrastructure, outlining the agency's priorities for improving the network and accelerating delayed construction projects. According to Todorov, his primary objective is to speed up work on road projects while ensuring high construction standards.
"Our ambition is to move forward quickly and deliver quality on all road projects that are important for society and citizens. Above all, we want to restore the institution's reputation because we carry enormous responsibility, and ultimately people's lives depend on how well we do our job," he stated.
