I was warned at the airport security that I shouldn't wear a comfy item or I'd face consequences again, but I'm not completely sure that I'd heed the advice07:35, 01 Jul 2026Wearing a tracksuit to the airport is one of the comfiest ways to travel – you’re basically dressing for hours of sitting, walking and rushing between gates, with bonus points for pockets and stretchy waistbands. But not every trackie is automatically flight-friendly, and what looks like an easy outfit choice can quickly become a headache if you pick the wrong one. Some airlines are surprisingly strict about what passengers wear, especially when it comes to rude logos or slogans that could be seen as inappropriate in public. And even if you get past check-in, anything with sequins or heavy embellishment can earn you grief at security, where staff may not appreciate extra triggers at the scanner when you’re just trying to get to your gate in peace. This is exactly the issue that Danielle Wroe faced recently. While her Juicy Couture tracksuit seemed like the perfect choice for flights, it ended up getting her pulled aside at airport security.Recalling the experience, Danielle said: "We were informed at security that we could keep our jackets on and leave our liquids in our bags, which was brilliant news - except I'd already removed my jacket and placed it in the tray."The member of staff handling the trays then asked me: 'Are your pants the same as this?' as they gestured to the diamante 'Juicy' on the back of my tracksuit top."'Yes', I replied, as I turned around so they could see for themselves. They let out a chuckle and warned me that I'd almost certainly be pulled aside once I passed through the scanners."Sure enough, when I went through the scanner, something triggered, and it turned out to be my tracksuit. I was asked whether I had anything in my pocket, which I hadn't, and was then directed to have my shoes checked."Danielle added: "As I walked away, the security officer advised me to avoid wearing my Juicy tracksuit to the airport in future if I wanted to avoid being stopped."I'll admit, it's not the first time I've been given this advice, but it's simply too comfortable and stylish to leave at home."Truth be told, I've been stopped and searched to some degree at security virtually every time I travel - usually on account of my jewellery - so I suspect I would've set off the alarms regardless. I'd assumed the diamantes on the tracksuit contained no metal and were purely plastic, but it's hard to say for certain."Danielle is far from alone in having such experiences at airports – as a number of women have taken to X to share their own stories of wearing Juicy Couture diamanté items while travelling.Article continues belowOne wrote: "My bedazzled Juicy Couture track pants set off the airport security scanner and I had to get a pat down and an explosives test."Meanwhile, another user shared: "I went through airport security in my Juicy Couture pants, and the bum got flagged."So if you want to pass through security without delays, it's probably a good idea to ditch the diamante tracksuits altogether. While they may be comfy and stylish, they can add unnecessary stress to your day if you're in a rush.
