Illumination has released the first trailer for Not Alone, unveiling a charming new animated adventure led by Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez ahead of the film’s theatrical debut.The movie marks Chalamet’s first voice role in an animated feature. He stars as Joe, a quiet and introverted rocket mechanic whose solitary life is upended when he joins forces with Fran, a gifted astro-botanist voiced by Gomez. Together, the pair prepare for the launch of a groundbreaking plant-powered rocket while navigating an awkward budding romance.Their mission takes an unexpected turn when three mischievous alien fugitives unexpectedly crash into Joe’s life. On the run from an overenthusiastic intergalactic law officer, the extraterrestrial trio discover that Fran’s revolutionary spacecraft may be their only chance of returning home, setting the stage for a cosmic adventure.The trailer showcases Illumination’s signature blend of colorful animation and family-friendly humour while introducing the aliens Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou. Brett Goldstein lends his voice to Officer Zandro, the determined space officer pursuing the trio across the galaxy. The supporting cast also includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.Not Alone is co-directed by Eric Guillon, whose previous work includes Despicable Me 3 and the visual design of the Despicable Me and Minions franchises. He is joined by Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val, both longtime Illumination collaborators behind films including Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Secret Life of Pets 2.Produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri, the film combines science fiction, romance, and family comedy in what appears to be another original franchise from the studio behind The Super Mario Bros.
