Court rules against woman who resigned before securing job with Transnet.
A woman who resigned from her job and prepared to relocate to KwaZulu-Natal believing she was on the verge of being hired by Transnet Freight Rail, only to later discover that she had not been hired, failed in her attempt to prove that the company had acted unfairly for not hiring her.
The dispute arose from a recruitment process dating back to September 2013, when Transnet advertised a horticultural assistant vacancy in Vryheid.
Rachel Nkhwatshirema applied for the post and was shortlisted for an interview alongside two other candidates.
After not hearing from the panel, Nkhwatshirema called the company and spoke to one of the panelists, and she claimed that the panelist told her that she would have “good news” for her and she should monitor her email for the news. This conversation occurred between October 2013 and January 2014.
