New Zealanders should soon be able to gain access to some of Anthropic's most powerful new artificial intelligence tools.Anthropic restricted access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 last month, after the United States government banned exports of the technology on security grounds. The move would have blocked New Zealanders from using the technology. However, the company posted on social media on Wednesday afternoon that it had received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.On X, Anthropic said that it would begin restoring access "tomorrow", and would share an update soon."We're grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on redeploying the models."Claude Fable 5 is Anthropic's most powerful AI model to date that has been made safe for general use.The company insisted it had a number of guardrails added.Mythos 5 does not contain the same safeguards and is not for use by the general public. Its use is restricted to trusted companies and governments, and is often used for helping build defences against cyber attacks. The export ban has drawn strong criticism from tech experts.
