Global LNG export growth in 2026 is expected to remain unchanged from last year if LNG supplies from the Middle East resume by the third quarter, according to the most recent edition of Shell’s annual LNG Outlook 2026 report launched in the wake of the latest Mideast war and the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Shell warned in its LNG Outlook 2026 report that if the disruptions to Mideast LNG continue out to the end of the year, global LNG supply could experience a rare annual contraction — with the added precaution that there remains a persistent uncertainty in the market. The major had forecast a 10% year-on-year growth in LNG supplies this year before the latest war in the Middle East broke out on Feb. 28, compared to 2025’s 422 million tons.
