Sergio Garcia and YouTube stars George and Wesley Bryan were among the prominent players to miss out.A field of 288 played 36 holes at four venues in England and Scotland, with the leading five at each course earning 20 places at Royal Birkdale. The Open begins July 16.Nicholas, who has nearly 400,000 followers on TikTok and focuses on his journey (and financial realities) through pro golf, shot rounds of 65 and 67 to finish 10 under and qualify for his first Open, one stroke ahead of compatriot Caleb Surratt. Nicholas also played his way into the U.S. Open and was given opening tee shot honors as a local player to Shinnecock Hills in New York.American Austen Truslow, England’s Tom Sloman and Spanish amateur Alejandro de Castro Piera completed the five qualifiers at Burnham & Berrow in Somerset.Christensen, 22, shot 65 and 70 to finish nine under at West Lancashire. He qualified at the same course as a 19-year-old amateur in 2023 before missing the cut at Royal Liverpool.Englishman Sam Bairstow topped the leaderboard at West Lancashire, which is close to Birkdale in England’s North West, at 10 under. New Zealander Kazuma Kobori and Spain’s Josele Ballester finished level with Christensen, one stroke behind.
