Declan Rice is going to call on his famous catchphrase for this World Cup.
Back in April, Rice was caught on camera mouthing “it’s not done” after Arsenal lost at Manchester City and appeared to be on their way to blowing the title. But Rice’s message of defiance proved to be a turning point for Arsenal as they won their first title in 22 years and now he says England will have the same mindset.
The hard work starts here as Thomas Tuchel’s men begin the knockout stage against DR Congo in Atlanta with Rice insisting anyone who thinks it will be easy is mistaken. But despite topping the Group, England’s performances were far from convincing and there has to be a mood shift if England want to go through and then navigate potential knock-out ties in Mexico City and then a quarter final with Brazil.
When asked if that is the mentality needed, Rice said: “100 per cent. Looking at our next opponent, it’s going to be a really tough game. And looking at the potential route of what could happen, it’s going to be really, really tough games to the final.
