The Centre rushed Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju to Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) to assess flood damage. Torrential rains have claimed three lives in the State since June 24.The deluge has battered Assam’s Dhemaji district downstream of Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang region, affecting 45,841 people across 188 villages. The district also reported the first human casualty of the year in Assam — a woman in the Sissiborgaon area.Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deputing the two Ministers to assess the ground situation, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu said his government’s immediate priority was to ensure swift relief for every affected family, restore essential services, and expedite reconstruction.He said that he accompanied Mr. Chouhan and Mr. Rijiju to Keyi Panyor, one of the worst-affected districts, on Tuesday to assess the situation first-hand, review the ongoing response, and understand the immediate requirements of the communities.The Chief Minister also called on Governor K. T. Parnaik, a retired Lieutenant General, to brief him on the prevailing flood situation and the measures undertaken by the government to provide relief and ensure the safety of the marooned.
