NEW DELHI: Seven months after its schedule collapsed, IndiGo continues to make top level management changes to plug the gaps revealed by its probe into last Dec crisis.

On Tuesday, the airline announced its old HR hand — K S Bakshi — will be IndiGo group head of human resources from July 20.

This March, the airline’s then CEO Pieter Elbers had stepped down and founder-promoter Rahul Bhatia has “in the interim assume(d) management of the affairs of the airline.” Former British Airways CEO William Walsh will take over as IndiGo CEO by Aug 3, 2026.Among the factors responsible for the unprecedented event last Dec was a pilot crunch with the airline going very slow in their hiring over 2024 and 2025 despite almost inducting a plane every week.

Internally, this issue was flagged by both pilots and the operations department that the same could have repercussions.

But with pilots seen as a “big expense item,” their hiring was kept on hold by the top management — some of whom including then CEO Peter Elbers have left the company earlier this year — to keep running a lean ship.Announcing Bakshi’s appointment Tuesday, an internal mail hinted at the same. “As we continue to strengthen our people capabilities and accelerate our growth ambitions, the role of people leadership has never been more critical.
