Experts at the 2nd International Conference on Smart Mobility Systems, being held at Osmania University, emphasised the need for technology-driven solutions to address India’s transport challenges.President of The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) Sunil urged academicians and researchers to develop innovative solutions for transport-related issues, and stated that governments should formulate policies based on such technical advancements.President of Intelligent Transportation Systems India, Akhilesh Srivastava expressed concern over the growing number of road accidents in the country. Citing research, he said that nearly 80% of accidents are caused by human error despite improved road infrastructure and vehicle standards. He called for focused research into driver-related factors and the implementation of effective safety measures to reduce road fatalities.Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Kumar Molugaram, speaking virtually, stated that smart and safe transportation systems are highly critical to achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat-2047. He observed that technology must always serve human welfare and true ‘smart mobility’ goes beyond mere automation.He further emphasised that big changes in transport cannot be achieved by a single sector alone, and urged researchers, engineers, policymakers, industry leaders and students to collaborate to deliver successful models.
