The KPHB police arrested two sisters working as housemaids for stealing a 100-gram gold biscuit and ₹1 lakh in cash from their employer’s residence in KPHB Colony. The arrested women were identified as Konala Ramya, 36, and her younger sister, Karri Nagalaxmi, 34, both natives of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. They had been employed as domestic workers at a villa in Indu Fortune Fields, Seventh Phase, KPHB Colony. The case came to light after the homeowner, Uddagiri Tata Rao, lodged a complaint following the disappearance of the valuables from the house on June 27.During the investigation, police found that the theft had taken place on May 19. Investigators said the complainant’s wife had opened an almirah on the second floor of the house in a hurry and inadvertently left it unlocked before leaving. The two housemaids noticed the open almirah and found a 24-carat gold biscuit weighing 100 grams along with ₹1 lakh in cash kept inside. Police said the sisters stole both the gold biscuit and the cash, later dividing the money between themselves and spending it on personal expenses and clearing pending dues.According to the police, the gold biscuit was concealed in the room allotted to the two women within the villa, for disposal at a later stage.Following a tip-off, the police team raided the room on Tuesday morning and apprehended both accused. During the operation, officers recovered the stolen 100-gram 24-carat gold biscuit intact.Further investigation is underway. Published - June 30, 2026 07:06 pm IST
