A leopard scaled the compound wall of a house and carried away a pet dog at Doddagajanur near Thalavadi here on Monday (June 29, 2026), causing concern among residents after the incident was captured on a CCTV camera.The incident occurred in the Soosaipuram area under the Thalavadi Forest Range of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. Dennis, a resident, had tied his pet dog in front of his house on Monday night. According to residents, the leopard emerged from the adjoining forest, climbed over the compound wall, attacked the dog and carried it away. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed at the house, and the footage has since been circulated widely.Residents alleged a leopard has been taking shelter in a defunct stone quarry in the area for more than three years and has preyed on several head of livestock in the surrounding villages during the period. They claimed the same animal was responsible for the latest attack.They urged the Forest Department to set up a cage to capture the leopard and prevent further attacks on livestock and domestic animals.
