A classified military document containing the full names of 104 Nigerian Army soldiers declared deserters after a Boko Haram attack on their base in Borno State has been obtained exclusively by SaharaReporters.
The soldiers, who were attached to the 162 Amphibious Battalion along the Mandara–Buratai Road, were listed as having “absconded” from their duty post, with their personal weapons, following a deadly assault by Boko Haram terrorists.
SaharaReporters had exclusively reported on June 5 that terrorists overran a Nigerian Army position along the Mandara–Buratai Road, killing at least eight soldiers and beheading them in the early hours of the attack.
“At the 162 Battalion on Mandara–Buratai Road, eight soldiers were killed in action. They attacked us at 4 a.m. today, Friday, when it was raining,” a military source had told SaharaReporters.
“They killed eight soldiers and beheaded them. Several others were injured during the attack.”
