China has called on "all parties" to the war in Ukraine to resume negotiations, address the "root causes" of the conflict based on adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, and reach a comprehensive and binding peace agreement.

According to Ukrinform, Sun Lei, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, stated this during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

"We call on all parties to step up efforts to resume negotiations, demonstrate political will toward each other, and dedicate themselves to eliminating all root causes of the conflict based on full and complete compliance with the principles of the UN Charter, with a view to reaching a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement," Sun said.

He said that ongoing hostilities are causing "immense suffering" for both Ukrainians and Russians, as well as a continuous rise in civilian casualties.

"If the conflict continues indefinitely, it will only bring more suffering, cause more destruction, plunge more innocent people into this senseless tragedy, and make the situation even more unpredictable," the Chinese diplomat said.
