BOSTON — There are no limits on Dean Letourneau’s future. The 6-foot-7, 235-pound right-shot center is coming off a 22-goal sophomore season at Boston College. The 20-year-old Letourneau, the Boston Bruins’ first-round pick in 2024, is the organization’s No. 1 prospect following ex-teammate James Hagens’ NCAA departure. With some luck, Letourneau could develop into a Tage Thompson-like center with a ripping shot and a frame that is difficult to dislodge.Letourneau is an anomaly, designed to skate and execute puck plays that few men of his size can hope to do. His Hockey East opponents do not have many solutions when the big man gets up to highway speed.“He took a step,” said director of player development Adam McQuaid, “in pretty well all facets of his game.”In this context, it is difficult to process that Letourneau was thinking about transferring from BC just one year ago. Scoring zero goals as a freshman will do that to you.“I knew what I could do,” Letourneau said. “I think that was an uncommon year for me. That wasn’t something I was expecting. So I was trusting my abilities to bounce back and have the year that I did.”Winners and losers from the 2026 NHL DraftScott WheelerNothing about his zero-goal, three-point 2024-25 season proceeded the way he expected. Letourneau, who scored 66 goals for St. Andrew’s College in Aurora, Ontario, the previous season, was planning to spend a transition year in the USHL. He would then be a 19-year-old BC freshman in 2025-26.
