June 30, 2026 — 6:27pmA junior worker at big four accounting firm EY has been sacked after he and another man allegedly accessed the personal bank account of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.In a case that Treasurer Jim Chalmers described as “incredibly concerning”, the two men allegedly accessed the prime minister’s CBA bank account using a computer at their home in Marrickville.An EY graduate has been sacked after allegedly accessing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s bank account.Eamon GallagherPaul Issa, 21, is an EY graduate who was on secondment to the CBA when the offence allegedly took place on May 6.Paul and Phillip Issa, 25, appeared at Sydney’s Downing Centre local court on Tuesday and had their bail continued to appear in court on August 25.The pair, dressed in dark suits and ties and flanked by a lawyer and a family member, left the Downing Centre on bail at 10.30am on Tuesday pursued by photographers.Paul Issa is charged with using a carriage service to publish personal data that a reasonable person regards as menacing or harassing.Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s personal bank account was alleged accessed by an EY employee.Alex EllinghausenHis court attendance notice said he allegedly “did use carriage service to make available, publish or otherwise distribute information that is personal data, of one or more individuals, and engaged in that conduct in a way that reasonable persons would regard, in all the circumstances, as menacing or harassing towards those individuals”.Paul Issa is thought to be a former top student who graduated with a business degree with distinction.Phillip Issa is charged with knowingly accessing restricted data.“I think on the face of it, any developments of this kind are incredibly concerning, not just in relation to the PM’s details, but any Australians’ details,” Chalmers said in Canberra on Tuesday.“I assume that there are now legal and other processes to play out and I don’t want to get in the way of those.”The prime minister’s office did not comment.Mr Albanese has a savings account with CBA as well as a mortgage for a $4.3 million property at Copacabana on the Central Coast which he owns jointly with his wife, according to his register of interests.EY also declined to comment.“The AFP charged two Sydney men on 6 May, 2026, with allegedly accessing restricted personal banking data belonging to a federal parliamentarian,” a federal police spokesperson said in a statement.The EY data breach is the latest in a series of scandals involving Australia’s big four accounting and consultancy firms.A parliamentary inquiry this month heard that partners at KPMG had been involved in leaking client information to colleagues who were applying for lucrative auditing contracts and mishandling whistleblower complaints.In 2023, PwC was forced to sell its government advisory business after it was found to have shared confidential government tax policy details.The fourth member of the big four, Deloitte, was forced to partially refund a federal government contract after producing a report that contained errors resulting from the use of AI.Get the day’s breaking news, entertainment ideas and a long read to enjoy.
