President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for cool heads ahead of the June 30 protests.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans to remain calm and reject violence ahead of planned anti-illegal immigration protests on Tuesday, warning that constitutional rights must never be used to justify intimidation, destruction or lawlessness.
In his weekly newsletter published on Monday, Ramaphosa acknowledged mounting public frustration over illegal immigration, admitting that South Africa's immigration system required significant reform.
However, he stressed that the government is already implementing measures to strengthen border management, tighten enforcement and restore confidence in the country's immigration processes.
The protests, organised by groups demanding that undocumented foreign nationals leave South Africa by June 30, have intensified debate over claims that illegal immigration places pressure on jobs, healthcare and education.
