A Limpopo councillor who had just been released on bail in an alleged SIU bribery case has been re-arrested shortly afterwards on an outstanding warrant linked to a separate fraud and theft matter in Limpopo.
According to the corruption watchdog, Netshivhumbe Gumani, was granted bail of R10,000 by the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mahikeng after being accused of attempting to bribe a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) investigator in an effort to interfere with an ongoing probe into municipal tender contracts at the Mahikeng Local Municipality.
It was previously reported that Gumani allegedly offered an investigator R70,000 in exchange for ignoring evidence uncovered during an investigation into alleged maladministration and corruption linked to two municipal lease agreements awarded by Mahikeng Local Municipality.
The SIU probe involves about R179 million paid to a service provider, with R28 million later transferred to Anacot Trading, linked to Shahzaad Mohamed Hussein.
