MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday urged organizers of a lightning rally along Edsa to ensure their activities comply with the law and do not disrupt public order as thousands of protesters gathered at the People Power Monument.

The demonstration drew thousands of protesters, prompting authorities to deploy additional police and traffic personnel to manage the crowd and ease congestion along affected sections of Edsa.

The rally was organized by members of the Iglesia ni Cristo, who said the demonstration was meant to call for transparency, accountability, justice and peace following the Office of the Ombudsman’s announcement that it would file a non-bailable plunder case against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan.
