In Lviv, Ukrainian and Polish surgeons performed a complex intrauterine operation at the 16th week of pregnancy to save a baby with a congenital disorder.

The Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Center reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

During an ultrasound examination, doctors detected a life-threatening defect in the fetus's urinary system in a pregnant woman under medical supervision. The center said that surgery was the only chance to preserve the pregnancy.

The operation was performed by pediatric surgeon Halyna Kurylo together with Polish professor Przemysław Kosinski.

"Time was running out, as there was almost no amniotic fluid left. Under strict ultrasound guidance, a successful intrauterine stenting procedure was performed. This eliminated the critical threat to the fetus's life and restored conditions for its stable development," the perinatal center said.
