Since February 2022, the Russian Armed Forces have executed 129 Ukrainian prisoners of war and individuals who had ceased participating in hostilities.

This is stated in a report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

The report states that “from mid-November 2025 to January 2026, UN experts documented credible reports of the execution of 37 Ukrainian servicemen in 18 incidents.” At the same time, the UN Monitoring Mission added that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the mission has verified data on the execution of 129 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian military personnel.

It is also noted that nearly all of the released Ukrainian prisoners of war interviewed reported torture or other forms of ill-treatment, “although some of them noted that their treatment and conditions of detention had gradually improved since late 2024.”

UN experts also reported instances of sexual violence against Ukrainian prisoners of war, detained civilians, and civilians in Russian-occupied territory.
