MANILA, Philippines – Power generation firms that repeatedly fail to deliver their expected output face potential blacklisting and cancellation of permits as the government steps up actions against poor services.

At a media briefing on Monday, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the Department of Energy (DOE) was ready to issue show-cause orders to 164 generation companies (gencos) connected to the main power grid, and another 11 servicing off-grid areas, mainly small or remote islands.

Garin declined to identify these gencos at this time “to avoid any complications.”
