Applications for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu commenced on Monday noon through the website — tnmedicalselection.org.Officials of the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, said the application window would remain open till at least one week after the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results. The NEET undergraduate re-examination was held on June 21.Dos and don’tsFor candidates looking to apply, Manickavel Arumugam, education counsellor, shared a few dos and don’ts. “Admission happens only through government counselling. Do not fall into the trap of fraudsters. No one can secure an MBBS/BDS seat for you without going through counselling,” he said, adding that no one could obtain MBBS/BDS admission anywhere in India without passing NEET. Registration with individual colleges was not necessary (the exception is the management quota seats at Christian Medical College, Vellore), he said.If any candidate is unsure of securing a government quota seat, Mr. Arumugam recommended registering for the management quota too. “If you do not register now, you will not be able to add it at a later stage,” he said.Mr. Arumugam urged candidates to consider their budget, keeping in mind that it is a long-term commitment. “Do not claim nativity if you are not a native of Tamil Nadu.
