Hundreds of women and youths of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State on Monday staged a protest in Akure, the state capital, over the list of candidates released by the party’s National Secretariat, alleging that it did not reflect the outcome of the House of Representatives primary election held last month.

The protesters claimed that some of the names on the list were those of aspirants who lost the primary election, describing the development as an attempt to impose candidates on the party.

The protest, which took place along Oyemekun Road and the Akure-Ilesa Expressway, caused heavy traffic as demonstrators blocked major roads, including the convoy of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We don’t want imposition in Ondo APC,” “Let our votes count,” “Ondo State women for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa,” “We say no to imposition,” and “APC National should do the right thing,” the protesters chanted solidarity songs and demanded that the party leadership respect the outcome of the primaries.
