Members of Kattunayakkan community on Monday submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redressal meeting held at the Collectorate here, seeking Scheduled Tribe (ST) community certificates.According to a the petition, the community members residing in villages, including Ponmanagar in Moolachi panchayat, Barathi Nagar and Anna Nagar in South Veeravanallur, Pudhukudi panchayat and surrounding areas of Ambasamudram, have been trying to obtain the ST certificate to avail themselves of government welfare benefits.The petition urged the district administration to issue a valid community certificate at the earliest to members of Kattunayakkan community in the region.In another petition, D. Abraham, a farmer from Manur region, sought enhanced compensation for crops damaged by wild animals, commensurate with the prevailing cost of cultivation.The petition stated that farmers from Tirunelveli district had been severely affected by crop losses caused by wild animals. Although the issue had been raised repeatedly and compensation was being provided, the existing relief structure was fixed in 2011 and was inadequate in view of the present cultivation costs.The petition urged the authorities to convene a meeting with stakeholders and revise the compensation amount accordingly.District Revenue Officer M.
