Mike Egerton/PA Images via Getty ImagesJune 29, 2026 Updated 11:58 am EDTArsenal have parted ways with head of sports science and performance Tom Allen.Allen joined the club from Aston Villa in 2017 as a sports scientist before being promoted by manager Mikel Arteta following Shad Forsyth’s exit in 2022.The 35-year-old was a key backroom figure behind the team’s Premier League title win and was part of the trophy presentation on the field at Selhurst Park in May.However, just over a month later, the club have now opted to move on in a surprise move.Lead performance coach Sam Wilson is also set to leave. Wilson joined the club in 2014 and has been part of the first team set-up for the past seven years. He works with injured players during their rehabilitation as well as with pre-match warm-ups and post-match cool-downs. He is expected to join Parma in Serie A.
The exits of Allen and Wilson are the latest from the club’s medical and performance departments following the ending of a 22-year wait for a league title.Head doctor Zafar Iqbal is also leaving, as reported by The Athletic earlier this month.The club dealt with a number of injury issues last term with key players Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz all spending significant time on the sidelines.
