The temporary Durban Drive-In repatriation site is being dismantled as the relocation of undocumented Malawian nationals to Musina nears completion.
THE temporary repatriation site at Durban's Old Drive-In site is expected to close on Tuesday morning following a significant reduction in the number of undocumented Malawian nationals at the facility, as authorities intensify efforts to conclude the relocation operation.
According to a statement issued by the eThekwini Municipality's Marketing and Communications Directorate, approximately 7 000 undocumented Malawian nationals have already been transported from the Durban Drive-In site to a temporary facility in Musina, Limpopo, as part of a coordinated operation involving the Department of Home Affairs and supporting non-profit organisations.
The municipality said the operation had progressed rapidly, with 58 buses departing the site on Monday and a further 10 buses leaving on Tuesday morning.
An additional 70 buses were scheduled to depart throughout the day as officials worked towards completing the repatriation process.
