A Rs 65-lakh house in Ayodhya. A newly built farmhouse in his native village. A motorcycle worth over Rs 1 lakh. A recently booked Mahindra Scorpio SUV all allegedly acquired by a 22-year-old drawing a monthly salary of around Rs 15,000.These purchases are now at the centre of the Uttar Pradesh Police's financial investigation into Anukalp Mishra, one of the accused arrested in the alleged Ram temple donation theft case.Investigators are examining whether the assets were acquired through legitimate income or financed using money allegedly siphoned from devotees' donations.According to police sources, officials are verifying claims that Anukalp recently built a farmhouse on the outskirts of his native Basawa village and purchased a house in Ayodhya last year, now estimated to be worth around ₹65 lakh.Police are also scrutinising reports that, despite already owning a vehicle, he had initiated the process of purchasing a Mahindra Scorpio SUV shortly before his arrest. Documents related to the alleged assets are being examined to establish the source of funds. The financial probe gathered pace after investigators recovered property-related documents during searches at Anukalp's residence in Kaushalpuri on Sunday.Investigators are also examining bank records, property papers and other financial documents to determine whether the acquisitions were backed by legitimate income or linked to the alleged embezzlement of temple donations.Police are further verifying claims that Anukalp purchased a motorcycle worth more than Rs 1 lakh despite his known income profile. They are also looking into reports that he organised a lavish seven-day religious event in his village in April this year, attended by several prominent personalities. While some neighbours told investigators that the family's financial condition had improved significantly over the past few years, officials said such statements are being treated only as leads. The probe is expected to widen beyond Anukalp Mishra. Police are preparing to examine the movable and immovable assets of all other arrested accused to establish the alleged money trail.Apart from the cash recovered so far, investigators will scrutinise land records, houses and other immovable properties registered in the names of the accused, along with sale deeds, mutation records and recent property transactions.Officials will also analyse bank accounts, high-value financial transactions, investments, insurance policies, lockers and other financial instruments. Income tax returns and other financial records will be examined to compare declared income with assets accumulated over time.
