A bus carrying explosive cables hidden in luggage was intercepted by the Border Management Authority (BMA) at the Beitbridge Port of Entry over the weekend.

This interception highlights the ongoing challenges of border security and the continuous efforts to thwart the illegal movement of dangerous materials in South Africa.

According to Major General (rtd) David Chilembe, at approximately 15:30, a keen-eyed BMA Border Guard identified suspicious luggage aboard an Interlink bus arriving from Malawi during routine inspections.

Upon conducting a thorough examination, the officer uncovered explosive cables concealed within a bag of rice, classified as explosives under national law.
