Speaker of the National Assembly Mihaela Dotsova held talks in Istanbul with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus, focusing on parliamentary cooperation and broader bilateral relations. The meeting took place during a visit by a Bulgarian parliamentary delegation attending the NATO Parliamentary Summit hosted by the Turkish Parliament.
The Bulgarian delegation is led by Dotsova and includes Ivan Lalov, head of Bulgaria’s delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and Deputy Head Daniel Mitov. The discussions were held on the sidelines of the Istanbul forum, where both sides emphasized the importance of sustained institutional engagement within the NATO framework and beyond.
Dotsova underlined that parliamentary contacts are a key driver in strengthening bilateral ties. She pointed to what she described as established positive relations between the two legislatures, noting that this foundation allows for deeper cooperation across multiple policy areas. “Parliamentary dialogue supports the development of bilateral relations between our countries,” she said, adding that a friendship group with Turkey is expected to be formed in the Bulgarian Parliament next week. She expressed confidence that its members would actively promote exchanges of experience and views with Turkish counterparts.
