World Cupdate: More round of 32, pleaseIn what felt like a real rug-pull, yesterday saw just one World Cup match played, after having at least four a day on my screen since June 13. Very unfair. But that one game happened to be the first knockout game of this World Cup. It sure lived up to the billing:

I kept thinking about what a strange path Canada has taken through this World Cup as I watched. This is a team with plenty of talent that entered with high hopes as a host country, but an uneven showing landed the Canadians in Los Angeles for the round of 32 after failing to win their group. And for 90-plus minutes, their time in the Cup overall seemed in jeopardy against South Africa.
