As we observe the International Day of Hope, the writer explores how hope can serve as a powerful force for personal and community unity growth.
The International Day of Hope, observed annually on 12 July, reminds us of the indispensable role that hope plays in our personal lives, and in the progress of our communities.
Hope, of course, is not merely a passive optimism. It is an active driving force. In a world grappling with division, conflict and wars, hope can fuel our efforts to work for building a more just and united world.
The Bahá’í Writings say: “Never lose thy trust in God. Be thou ever hopeful, for the bounties of God never cease to flow upon man. If viewed from one perspective they seem to decrease, but from another they are full and complete. Man is under all conditions immersed in a sea of God's blessings. Therefore, be thou not hopeless under any circumstances, but rather be firm in thy hope” and “Be calm, be strong, be grateful, and become a lamp full of light, that the darkness of sorrows be annihilated, and that the sun of everlasting joy arise from the dawning-place of heart and soul, shining brightly”.
The challenges we face are not random occurrences. They are opportunities for learning, growth, and transformation. They can help us to rise above our differences and work together to build a more unified world. A life inspired by hope gives us motivation and drive to pursue our individual advancement and growth, and to contribute to the betterment of society.
